SAY HELLO AND CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SYLVIE BRIDE, MELODY AND HER FIANCE, TIM.
I was born and raised in California, and moved to Indiana to get my PhD in Biology. I didn’t expect to meet the love of my life on my third day in town, let alone get engaged to him on our one year anniversary! Life is full of wonderful surprises. I count my lucky stars everyday to have Tim in my life.
HOW THEY MET?
I moved from California to Indiana for graduate school summer of 2018, and on my third day in town I opened up bumble to check out the dating scene. Tim was the second person I saw, and my heart just stopped. I had never felt a pang like that! We matched and started talking right away. There was an instant connection, and we felt like we had known each other for ages. We had our first date on august 9th and have been inseparable ever since.
HOW DID YOU KNOW THEY WERE THE ONE?
For our second date we had agreed to meet at the Saturday farmer’s market at 8:00am. I was already a little hesitant about asking him to meet me so early on a Saturday, but he was all in (I loved his willingness and easygoing demeanor when I asked to meet him so early)! He and I walked around the market sipping coffee, snacking on raspberries, talking and laughing. As we passed a flower vendor the vendor offered me a sprig of lavender. I gratefully accepted, and then offered the sprig to Tim half-jokingly. He graciously took the lavender from me and tucked it behind his ear. At that moment, “husband material” flashed through my mind. I have never had a thunderbolt moment like that before, and I clung to it. After that moment I leaned into our relationship without any hesitation.
HOW DID THEY PROPOSE?
Some context: on our third date Tim and I were walking through the Indiana university campus after dinner and a show. The bell tower began to strike 10 pm and he realized he had never heard a bell tower before! I couldn’t believe it, so I began to count down the bells for him. Once the 4th or 5th bell struck we both realized this was an extremely romantic moment, perfect for our first kiss, and when the clock struck 10…we both totally chickened out! We shared our first kiss later that night, but we still joke about the missed opportunity. So, on our one-year anniversary we went back to that same place at noon to count 12 bells for 12 months. We kissed during the bells, and then he told me on our third date he had decided never to chicken out with me again, then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE A SYLVIE RING?
Tim started asking me about my ring preference a few months before he proposed, and all I knew is that I liked three stone rings. So, we went ring shopping! It was so fun to look at all the different styles with him, and figure out what I liked. I had narrowed it down to three very similar three stone rings, and he asked me which one was my favorite, which was the sylvie! It worked out perfectly because Tim had a Men’s diamond ring from his grandfather, and Sylvie was able to customize the ring and place his three diamonds.
WHICH SYLVIE RING DID YOU CHOOSE?
I loved the three stone setting, and the milgrain detail. I also love the lower setting. I wear Nitrite gloves at work a lot, and the lower setting means less glove rips, and more protection for the prongs and diamonds.
WHERE DID YOU PURCHASE THE RING?
Goldcasters, in Bloomington, Indiana.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR SYLVIE RING?
I love that Tim was able to work with Sylvie and Goldcasters to customize the ring with his family diamonds. The main stone belonged to his grandfather, and the two side stones belonged to his great-grandfather. Now a get to wear and continue on a family legacy every day.
AS A SYLVIE BRIDE, YOU SAY YES TO LOVE AND TO MANY OTHER THINGS! WHAT ARE THEY?
I said yes to: Tim, a marriage with him, a family, love, support, communication, openness, laughter, tears, patience, equality, happiness, and a shared future.
AS THE GROOM, WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR YES GIRL?
I could write a near endless list of reasons why I love melody, but when asked to narrow it down to just one thing, I find that my words seem to fail me. Melody is more than any single, definitive quality: she’s everything, the complete package. I love all of her, and I’m awed by the sheer depth and intensity of the love she gives to me in return. Asking melody to marry me was the easiest decision I’ve ever made, and I wouldn’t want to live this life with anyone else by my side.
