As a young man, he learned jewelry repair and the ins and outs of the jewelry business. Once out of college, Mr. Beard was off to New York to the diamond district, where he worked for H.J. Wilson Co, one of the nation’s largest jewelry retailers. Here Mr. Beard learned jewelry manufacturing, merchandising, and buying. After four years he moved from New York to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he continued working for Wilson Jewelers as Vice President of jewelry merchandising. In 1981 Mr. Beard left Wilson’s to pursue his lifelong dream of owning his own jewelry store. Beard Fine Jewelers was soon established in Lufkin, Texas.
